Today's Siren Test Results
Thursday, April 12, 2007
Entergy conducted three tests of the new Indian Point alert notification system, with nearly perfect results from the first two tests, but poor results from a third test. As a result, Entergy will formally apply tomorrow for an extension from the NRC on placing the new system into service. While the system performed near perfectly using all its capabilities (cell phone/internet and radio) to activate the system, as was demonstrated in the first and second tests, difficulties remain for activating the sirens using just the radio method in the third test. Entergy contractors are analyzing data and inspecting radio communications equipment such as radio tower transmitters, receivers, and antennas.
Entergy will also address during the requested extension a concern raised by FEMA relating to the volume of the sirens.
Below are the results of today's tests.
Entergy will only put into service a system that meets our operational standard and the NRC criteria, as outlined in its order. Entergy is very grateful for the support it has received from the counties and for the patience of the community.

The radio signal only portion of this test did not pass the operability criteria.
In accordance with the basis for determining system meeting in-service (operability) requirements, these tests results must be as follows:
For test 1 - 94% (the NRC RPO threshold)
For test 2 - 90% (the FEMA REP-10 acceptance criterion)
For test 3 - 90% (the FEMA REP-10 acceptance criterion)
The activations and data reported for these tests came from the following:
- Westchester County 60 Control
- Rockland County Warning Point
- Putnam County Warning Point
- Orange County EOC
