Entergy plans to test the Indian Point siren system in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. During this test, all 172 sirens will sound at full volume for approximately four minutes. A test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) will immediately follow the siren test.
BECAUSE THIS IS ONLY A TEST, NO RESPONSE ON THE PART OF THE PUBLIC IS NECESSARY DURING THE SIREN SOUNDING.
PLEASE REMEMBER: Sirens are NOT a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local EAS radio or television station for important information and direction. These stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point. These booklets are also posted on the Indian Point web site – www.safesecurevital.com
